Sunrise or Sow?

“But I can’t understand what must be in a man’s mind if he doesn’t feel seriously that there is a God when he sees the sunrise.  It must at times occur to him that there are eternal things, or else he must push his face into the dirt like a sow.”  (Luther’s Works #447)

I’ve always thought of creation as the way that God starts the conversation with us.  Isn’t there enough information that we take in through our eyes for us to consider the possibility that there is something more.  Doesn’t a deeper reality, an undercurrent, a pulse behind it all draw people to want to know more.

That’s a good conversation starter but the fact that God became a part of His creation in Jesus Christ is how God completes His Creative Work.  So is creation the advertising, while Jesus is the main event?
