Investing in the Food Bank

The fifth grade took a stroll up the street for a field trip to the St. Stephen Food Bank.  After a warm greeting from Father Stevens and Bobbie, who serves as the administrator of the food bank, the students and teachers were given a tour of the food bank and the procedures for running helping those who request aid.  I was amazed to discover that the food bank has been in operation for around twenty years and that in some months it’s ministry can impact families totalling nearly 700 people.  I thank God they are serving Wahiawa and that Trinity supports them.

The students came up with many interesting questions.  One of my favorites was, how fast do they go through the food?  This from a pre-teen boy who probably goes through food faster than you can put down a grocery bag.  I was able to share with the class that during my lean school years our family was helped by the food bank connected with my school.  I pray it was an eye-opening and important look into ministry to those in need.
