Going Without

I believe life can be improved when we simplify.  Since I’ve been married my wife and I have moved twelve times, that’s nearly once a year.  Many of those moves were within the same city, some were moves to serve a church in a different state, some were because we were without a home waiting for something permanent.  Within those many moves we had many times where we lived without because something was packed away.  Having to put our stuff in boxes made me think how much do I need this, do I really want to move this again?  You learned to live without and recognized what was important.

Jesus Christ had a big move, He, who was God, moved into the world as a part of the creation.  Philippians tells it best,

Although he was in the form of God and equal with God, he did not take advantage of this equality. Instead, he emptied himself by taking on the form of a servant, by becoming like other humans, by having a human appearance. He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, death on a cross. (Philippians 2:6-8  )

Jesus gave up a lot to be with us.  He gave up a life without a body, he gave up knowing everything and depended on the Father for what was ahead, he gave up the safety and unity of heaven to die and be separated from His Father on the cross.

How much more incredible than is Jesus’ return to be with His Father in Heaven!  Jesus takes with Him his body, crucifixion scars and all but there at the right hand of the Father Jesus once again is fully reunited with His Father and the Holy Spirit.  What a homecoming that would be, mission complete, sin defeated, reunited!
