A Letter from Aaron – Feet Washing Downrange

Pastor Shawn,

Today I had Maundy Thursday service with the head Chaplain for the U.S. Navy, Rear Admiral Tidd.

It was a very small service in our conference room and a feet washing service at that. The chaplain spoke about how Jesus came to serve, not to be served, and how the Disciples were uncomfortable with the fact that Jesus was washing their feet (for many reasons). I gained an understanding of this for the first time as I sat and had my feet washed by a senior officer, and then I turned to wash the feet of a Navy Petty Officer. You could feel the tension in the room as everyone seemed to feel awkward having their feet washed.

It was a tender and humbling moment.

God bless.
